normal and displacement maps?

Hi All,
I just wanted to chime in on the Substance mentions. I use an open source application called Materialize from Bounding Box Softwareto create all my PBR maps from one initial image. It's a great quick way to generate Normal maps, Height maps, Metal, AO, Smoothness, etc. All from an initial Diffuse map image.
There are sliders and presets for each map type and it lets you view the material right there in the viewer as you build and tweak it.
A quick google search for Materialize PBR can get you there or for those more to the hacker end of the spectrum can quickly find it on GitHub.
For those looking to save a buck in these dog days of Covid.
Thank you so much!!

I think my vote may already be counted here, from over a year ago.
But I wanted to pop back in and say that Displacement mapping remains my current #1 feature request. This is what is needed to take my renderings to the next level.
Many other softwares have this support, and it goes a long way towards realism without burdening the modeler.
Thanks!

Coming with 2.9! Looks great so far already in our internal build.

amazing to hear! can't wait to see it in action
any news on when we can expect a new preview?

There'll be a preview coming in the near future which should already include our custom asset library editor, then we gather feedback - regarding displacement mapping, that will also come, but may then be available in a preview after the one which will be released soon.

Is this working in Revit? Curious how it is being accomplished?

This is such great news!!! I can happily wait knowing its in the pipeline.
Thanks so much for making this one happen, can't wait to see the results! -

That's showing normal maps, specular etc. Not the same as displacement mapping. There's no specific slot in Revit for displacement. Hence the question is it working / how is it being accomplished. Which slot is used? Or is there custom API etc.

will it be actual displacement mapping like tesselation which alters the geometry (and makes the file more heavy) or more like parallax occlusion, which gives the displacement look and feel? Twinmotion has this with some native materials and looks great and is still light on the hardware.
-
It's going to be a technique similar to parallax occlusion mapping (but higher quality). We evaluated (gpu accelerated) tessellation based displacement, but deemed it unfit for our Archviz use case, as we don't have much control of the incoming geometry data (and its mesh) and this will lead to poor results with tessellation.
-
Is this available in the latest preview?
-
No, it's not yet in the last Preview, but is expected to be available with the next upcoming one.
-
Thnx for the info Clemens! Really looking forward to it even more.

Custom assets and parallax occlusion!
Enscape - way to go! ???
-
Still no reply on the question how is this will be applied in Revit ? Some new tool for Revit displacement map setting? or this feature will be Sketchup exclusive for now?
-
It's going to be accessible via the heightmap/bumpmap slot of Revit materials. Once you specify a depth amount above a certain threshold Enscape will utilize the displacement mapping technique to provide a much better depth illusion than normal mapping alone.
