I've just come off of a a test week using TwinMotion and really enjoyed doing exterior landscape work to my models vs in SketchUp/Enscape. Notably, the paint landscape/objects tool was incredibly easy and useful to use. Now I'm looking for tools and/or methods to use within SketchUp/Enscape which has led me to Scatter. Wondering now if there are any Scatter users around here that use Enscape and if anyone has any tips/feedback/etc for that app. Or maybe there is another plugin I'm not aware of? Thanks all!
Any Scatter users here? Comments/Feedback?

I am a scatter user. May i help you?
Its a good a good plug-in to sketchup, but only for a small places, otherwise you Will need a NASA computer

That's been my concern, which is performance. It's not clear to me that a normal or suggested amount of scatter assets I can expect to use before things get too rough on performance.
-
You can use the scatter to close scenes.. Sure if you have a good gpu you can raise your plane.
You also can try less density of assets scattered.
You must try to find some balance assets X performance

well from my point of view is scatter good servant but bad master
after 50 000 proxys it start lags in calculating proxy position on the surfaces or should i say on the edges
it depends what kind of renderer u have or choose , enscape is good with skatter but when u doing 3D grass its litlle bit a laggy /enscape/ due to huge ammount of proxy patches , but this depends how u can setup your proxy , program transmutter is good choise to reduce unnessesery polygones and i think its made by same developer like skatter ...

Skatter is indispensable, I signed up to the earliest possible preview years ago and still use it all the time. It won't be as fast as Twinmotion, or even Forest pack, but it does exactly what it says it does, is quite flexible and is very reliable.
I should add, I am running a dual xeon/RTX3090/256gb RAM 2 x TB SSD machine (though I suspect the advantage of such a machine is limited with SketchUp), so can't say what the results will be on something more consumer-grade. -
Been using Skatter for a couple of years. Works great with Enscape assets with no real issues. you can see example on my Artstaion. Most all vegetation seen is done with Skatter.

I've used skatter on projects with enscape, if you are using suitable assets enscape will do well with them. Obviously if you are planting a whole forest, then expect some major fan noise from your workstation.
You can use it with more detailed assets using transmutr to create enscape ready assets with placeholders for inside of sketchup (a must for plants!) so that SketchUp doesn't have a meltdown.
You can also use the custom assets function in enscape to achieve the same thing

Thanks for the feedback everyone! After dabbling in TwinMotion all week, I'm back to SketchUp/Enscape full time
, so I'll be trying/buying Scatter shortly.
Might pickup Transmutr while I'm at it, but I I might start a new conversation thread about that separately.

I'm the developer, don't hesitate to send me a MP or even better an email to contact@lindale.io if you have questions

congrats for your machine

HAHA yeah I agree with RSRender!!
I don't have quite a build as eliotbnz but I agree even with a decent PC the limitations of skatter eventually fall on the shoulder of SketchUp. However, I have found that for large scenes that have literal forest I will use the enscape "linked model" so that my primary model doesn't lag. If you use this method You have to be sure that you generate the mesh in order for enscape to render it in your primary model.Attached shows 22,000 enscape trees with the use of Skatter. Using an RTX 2080TI, Enscape runs okay, especially with this many assets. Grant it there are only 2 or 3 unique trees that are instanced across the map but it works well. I only enable this layer at render time so that I can work out materials etc.

Fun software so far. Went ahead and purchased a license before the trial ended. So much to learn, but here's my first scene, using only built-in Scatter and Enscape proxy assets.
Used Artisan (trial) for sandbox terrain modeling. I'm still struggling with producing natural edge transitions- i.e. the pathway/grass.

Are you using the Skatter presets for your grass? They have one for edges and for large areas. You'll see that the built in Skatter grass for each of these presets have a patch of grass to suit - a small one for the edges, and a larger one for the general area preset.
I use these presets, but then replace the Skatter grass with my own, and I have created two versions of my own grass to match the dimensions of the Skatter grass. Works great. -

Works great.I found it a lot easier to just use Enscape grass vs Scatter. Scatter grass was killing my system (GTX 1080ti) on this size model, but I'd like to keep playing around with it. This was using a blanket grass approach and not doing any additional border work along the pathway, since adding a border group for scatter to map to would be more time consuming, the way I'd have to offset the pathway edges in SketchUp using Drape in the Sandbox tools. Next time I'd make the pathway boarder edging beforehand when making the pathway drape over the terrain. In SU, you can't just offset geometry that is draped over terrain - it needs to be flat on a plane.
A lot of the terrain work in SketchUp feel like the wrong tool to the job to be honest. Get's the job done, but it seems you really need to work out geometry early on.
I'm gonna try some custom assets next and get more of a forest look. This was mostly a test to learn Scatter, Artisan (Sandbox) and to further some rendering material/asset knowledge.
IMO, I wish we could start Scatter areas by painting areas vs choosing groups and then clipping out via the paint clipping tool. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? Again, a lot more thought needs to be put in before doing terrain stuff and I like to create as I go as I create.
