It seems like decals with self illumination on are not rendering properly in Revit. They become mirror like.

Settings are very basic (see screenshot). Enscape version in attachment as well.
So the left picture is created in photoshop and the right picture is the Enscape output?
I'm not aware of any current issues with decals.
Could you share the project file with our support team via support@enscape3d.com?
Hey Jonathan,
No the left image is the exact same decal but with self illumination off. The right is with self illumination on. I tried different values for self illumation (from 1 to 10 000) and always got the same mirror-like behavior.
I'll work on getting a sample file (the real project is kinda big to share)
Please find a minimal example scene at this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0cw…BayqIQ7E8xCdJLhaNK-a?dl=0
I included the image I used for the decal and some enscape screenshots so you can see how it looks on my machine.
Pieter Thanks for sharing. Self-Illuminated Decals are not supported at the moment but it is now on our agenda.
I must admit that I was thinking that we talked about self illuminated materials. Sorry for that!
The workaround right now would be to use a self illuminated material with an image on it, or you could try to place the self illuminated material behind the decal.
Thanks Jonathan.
A large percentage of our decals end up on monitors, tv's, led panels etc. so hopefully you can find a way to make this happen
Was there a resolution on this? I'm having the exact same issue.
Can't offer transparency or self illumination (I have not had to look for a solution for those yet), but here is method to use to simulate screens etc. It is simply painted on a face in Revit. If you burn the image in photoshop to over brighten the image, you simulate a light, however, it will not show up as a light in Revit or Enscape. (Just darkens like the rest of the room if you transition time in Enscape).
Robertpolk Do you want have a colored glass? Or do you want to have a light up screen?
PS: What do you mean with "Can't offer transparency or self illumination?"
I needed a stained glass that would show "strong" in a walk through. This was a hack I made work for that application. I have not explored the PBR materials for the self lighting glass /transparency for Revit 2019 and Enscape. That doesn't mean they can't do it, I just haven't looked for that solution. This again was a quick hack to get the proper "look" in a walk through.
Jonathan Knoefel I did try the workarounds but they didn't really give the effect I was looking for. I ran out of time trying settings, but the self-illuminating material behind the decal washed out the decal image too much. The self illuminating material with the image included didn't work very well for one because it kept rotating and I couldn't get it aligned, and the other was a video wall, so it was 35 monitors in an array and I really didn't have time to make that many position adjustments. I'll keep playing with it, but a self illuminating decal would really solve it quickly.
I'd love those self illuminating decals as well. In Revit, decals are so much easier to place then the workaround with a material.
YES, another strong vote for adding this capability.
I would use this on absolutely EVERY project.
While you're working on it, how about animated textures? That would add more "life" to our scenes. (Obviously not supported by Revit...)
I'm not finding other threads that describe this problem. It happened under 2.4, 2.5 and now under 2.6. I have a waiting room with some storefront along the exterior wall. I'm using decals to apply graphics to the glazing. If there is modeled Revit content such as a sidewalk, parking lot or adjacent wall, the decal shows up as expected. If there is no modeled content, the decals (or portions of them) do not show up and the glass renders clear. I kind of like having the skybox in the background for some visual interest where the glass is supposed to be clear. See the attached image for a better understanding of the issue. What it's doing is cropping the decal at the edge of the parking lot. If I build a wall around the parking lot, it has to be really tall, and I get shadows and changes in tone because of the shading. Why doesn't the decal take more precedence over the skybox? The storefront at the other end of the waiting room has clear glass, so I want to be able to see the skybox and not the white background.
Any updates on this?
Its 2022....
