I'm afraid this behaviour is technically not avoidable - it's also present in SketchUp for example when using section cuts, and due to technical reasons we can, at least for now, not easily adjust the shadow behaviour just like that even though one would expect that the geometry updates these. I'll forward this to our product management team again for further discussion.

Any updates here? We are forever having to chop up model geometry using boolean splits in order to get our shadows to correctly read for sections.

I am afraid not - As mentioned, it should technically be simply not possible from a development standpoint since we do not actually receive the geometry in a "cut way" so shadows and such will remain the same with or without clipping planes. I do wish I had more positive news, but I'll also forward this subject again, although I would not expect this to be resolved anytime soon, again, due to technical limitations.
