Mac Support Main Overview Thread

  • hm, strange morning, I have read the email from Peter and Vlado...seems like "winter is coming" , better said "chaos is coming"....hope the good things remains...

You can read more about it here as well! Enscape itself will also stay as its own product, for now, so don't expect any crazy changes coming soon which could alter or influence your workflows (in a perhaps negative way).

  • Wouldn't it be easier to export an "enscape" model. Which can be opened in a separate program? I don't know if it's possible to export to a Mac format in Windows and vice versa. It could be like a pdf which can be read/opened on both operating systems. Also the filesize could be smaller since you don't have to embed the Enscape renderer and UI in the same file.

    Best,

  • There are different options, yes. This way we could also workaround the issue with "unsigned executable" on Windows that we currently have. As I said - no concrete decision yet, we evaluate different options.

Is it about exporting a standalone ?

Should be a Container that includes an EXE and an App to execute Enscape

and a single Data File, shared by both.

Otherwise it is quite common to share and open 3D Data Files between both

System. Like we do with Modo, C4D, Vectorworks, Bricscad, .....

Just one potential problem, Paths for Render Output, Resources or Textures.

Although both may have access to the same drive, with Windows drive letters

and forward vs back slashes - this is no fun.

  • It could be a data file that contains all necessary textures (except maybe big HDRI...). So essentially the same as the Enscape executable you can export now, but without the renderengine etc.

  • Well I have seen in too. And share the same excitement with you. Bit surprised that Apple didn’t reales basic studio with M1 pro for better price but…seems like I get rid off my windows Rtx workstation and buy studio with M1 max…ultra version is above my budged…I expect that Twinmotion is almost ready for it…but what about Enscape…it’s total silence about it…😉

I am anxious to see a first impression report from the Enscape development team. :)

If the M1 Ultra comes through as advertised you will make your money back in a jiffy!

  • Does any one know if the Enscape stand-alone .exe will be supported on the new Mac?

It's more than highly likely that we'll provide standalone files, just not in .exe format of course. I'll share further news with everyone as soon as I can! :)

Thanks Demian…I do understand…Honestly I was hoping [after merging with Chaos] that you and your product might be one of the presenters/enajelist on the Apple keynote on 8. March…never mind…I will wait and see…hope it will be finally possible to switch to MacOS back again after all these years

  • eGPU support would be great! I have a Razor X with AMD GPU so that could speed up rendering on my iMac from 2017... If it is supported on these older machines..

  • While compatibility is being sorted out with M1, anyone know if a temporary solution like using a Black Magic eGPU would work?

Looking into it I see no reason at the moment why we would not support it, but as of yet, really no promises I can make even if I'd wish. :) There'll of course be a lot more info coming out soon so stay tuned as always.

I'm not sure if you mean for the older machines or the new ones , but Apple don't support eGPUs on the M1 Macs currently - and it's uncertain if they will in future.

Perhaps when / if they rejuvenate the Mac Pros with their own chips then we will see support.

  • From my point of view I don’t expect that Apple will make support for eGPU from nVidia or AMD for Apple silicons…after launch of M1 ultra and first benchmarks I think /based on relevant information/ that they will scale-bind their GPU chips even more to forfill also the need of all pro levels….now it seems that Metal based and MacOS optimised apps can take significant advantage from Apple chips….and Mac Pro is last machine based on Intel chip now…which I expect that it will be transferred to Apple silicon this Year so really no need to support older products of Apple….so hope that all the software developers who want to be established on MacOS will make their apps native for Apple silicon…but we will see what future brings…

PS. Seems like M1 ultra might be powerful enough for massive group of professionals
