I´m not sure though if it works in a way if I comment, I will get the notification if someone replies...

That should do the trick indeed - Just FYI: You can also manage your notifications through the Forum Notification Settings. :)

  • I don´t understand what you´re meaning? :)

Producing an NFT is incredible bad for the environment. Current estimates are that to make 1 it uses about the same energy that a normal person will use in a whole month.

NFTs and the other blockchain stuff have already burned through more energy, that we have has saved by some people having switched to electric cars, and this increases daily because by the very nature of how these things are currently created, the next one always costs more energy than the previous one.

It's not something anybody should be getting involved in - there is a little Architecture centric piece on it here:

The environmental impact of NFTs is "horrible" says architect Chris Precht (dezeen.com)

  • oh a blockchain hater here? :) I hardly disagree with your opinion, but this forum is not a place for this kind of debate :) I´ll post this video though:

you can watch if you want :)

I think it's important people know is all. This is the off topic area.

p.s. I'm not sure if a pro bitcoin documentary funded by a bitcoin company is perhaps going to present a measured and unbiased argument :P

There are definately some good bits and pieces in there that I didn't know. I find it fascinating that making money has driven people to make use of the gas energy that comes out of oil fields. But just as I see whole hydroelectric plants in russia being taken over specifically to create cheap energy for bitcoin farms, it does beg the question, why don't we do that by default to fullfil our energy needs?

  • ok, my last comment considering crypto :) it is true that proof of work in cryptocurrency is an issue if nongreen electricity is used. but not all of crypto need proof of work (mining). There are cloud-based cryptos also and cryptos based on proof of stake (no mining needed). Meaning that NFT-s can be sustainable, is just the matter of the blockchain technology used ...

and about your concern about the environmental impact of bitcoin, I agree, it´s not perfect, but it´s still using way less energy than any current banking system ... https://hassmccook.medium.com/…ental-impact-f56b18014f64 (an old article, but just to present how bitcoin energy consumption information can be very misleading).

Blockchain could also save billions the government at the moment uses for our data protection (which is not and could never be saved as it could be if supported with the blockchain).

There are really a million reasons, how could blockchain be used for good, but it being a playtoy for millionaires is somehow putting a bad light on the whole concept of the blockchain.

  • Hi joals10,

My very first thought was the same as yours. I have not figured out how to upload .exe file as NFT. But I think it could have alot of growth potential as the "high-end" VR experiences, as you can seemingly create a much better VR rendered experience (obviously we all know that) out of enscape than any of this crap they are pedaling on Metaverse/Decentraland etc. And as we know the VR functionality is baked into the .exe file so whoever would buy it would be able to use it without any software (which you would probably have to explain, which Enscape marketing team would probably love all the free press!)

I have another question regarding whether we would be able to include the Enscape Assets like people at what not in the renderings, animations and models we sell. I haven't tried to see whether the assets would export well to blender (which as far as I know is the only way to get your 3D model onto the marketplaces like OpenSea or Decentraland). What about things like treadmills. Seems like its part of a tool we pay for so it could be included (and wouldn't be sold as the asset itself.) But if I am not mistaken these enscape assets would only be visible in their full rendered quality when viewing them in enscape correct? If I exported one from Rhino->Obj->Blender-> glfb or whatever that mapping wouldn't stay with it it would just look like an extremely low poly person right?

So I would likely maybe include them in the renderings/animations and leave them out of the 3D model I would sell.

Does that make sense? Would I be breaking any laws there? Have you guys thought about this at all? Have you thought about how you might be able to get the .exe file format into consideration for NFT creation file formats?

I think its all very exciting, and us industry professionals who have a leg up would be wise to take advantage, stay up with this stuff, doesn't seem like its going anywhere.

And thank you Adam for letting me know about the environmental/energy impact, hopefully the greed associated with this gold rush will be the push the energy industry needs to make the strides towards renewable and limitless energy supply. But I will do some research onto the impacts before I help this movement take over the world.

  • now admins can delete all comments, not connected with enscape :D

It's fine. :) It is indeed an off-topic area where this is being discussed so it's all allowed.

  • An NFT itself can't actually be data for an image or a Jpeg or whatever, it just has a little space for text type data. for example the NFT might contain a web link to a google drive or server where you store your .exe file.

So in the case of opensea and decentraland, they might host those images for you, if those services close or change the location of the file, then the original NFT will no longer function, unless you go back and update it to point somewhere new.

The NFT itself is simply like a certificate or receipt or receipt . Think of it closer to actual paperwork.

This paperwork tells you where something last was (in a storage location)

For example here are the details of an NFT art ,you can see the "contract" as it is public ally accessible in the blockchain

Bored Ape Yacht Club: BAYC Token | 0xbc4ca0eda7647a8ab7c2061c2e118a18a936f13d (etherscan.io)

Within the contract is contained the web link location for the image (in the tokenURI section)
