Best laptop spec?

  • Markers of power in 2022?

    VRAM and CPU.

You will only get large amounts of V-RAM on high spec cards, CPU becomes more important for the high framerates required for VR

The "consumer" 3080 or 3080Ti should have an edge over the A5000 for VR. (make sure you are getting the 16GB VRAM version of the 3080.) With the GPU you also need to consider the rated power. The higher end models should be making 150-165W available to the GPU. You may have to dig for that information. I don't see a rating on that Dell 7760, but it looks like it has a 240W power brick, whereas the most powerful gaming laptops come with a 280-300W brick. So that implies to me it may be leaving some performance on the table.

For CPU, I'd go with 12th Gen Intel i7 or i9 over Xeon. That said, the deciding factor will likely be how soon you need it and what you can actually get your hands on. So far I'm only seeing Dell/Alienware with the 12th gen + 3080Ti combo available.

  • Here I prefer you the Dell XPS 17, CPU: Intel Core i7-11800H (8-core, 24MB Intel Smart Cache, up to 4.6GHz with Turbo Boost), Graphics: Intel Iris Plus; Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, RAM: 32GB DDR4 (3,200MHz), Screen: 17-inch UHD (3,840 x 2,400) touch, Storage: 1TB SSD (PCIe, NVMe, M.2).
