Baking shadows are incorrect in animation

  • Hi everyone,

I have a problem with the visibility of lights and shadows in the interiors. When doing an animation - the first frame renders reasonably correctly, but when the camera moves away - you can see that the shadow burned in the first shot remains only in the place of the first frame.

Below I paste 1 frame of the animation and 1 second later.

Does anyone also have a similar problem?

Until yesterday, the same scene worked perfectly without this error.

    Thank you, bye!

Hi gemodele , and thanks a lot for your post.

You've already received a dedicated detailed message from one of my colleagues through the submitted support request.

To sum it up briefly for anyone who stumbles upon this thread: This basically caused by the fact that the GPU is entirely overloaded here since the project uses 4k-8k textures, as well as a 16k skybox, all with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB of VRAM.

In this case, the amount of VRAM and power of this card is not sufficient and odd shadow behavior as seen here can occur (among other issues potentially)- We, therefore, recommend downsampling these textures, using a lower-sized skybox as well as following the additional steps which don't need to be detailed here since it's specific to your case.

  • Hi there,

Thank you for your help, but I have solved it other way.

First, I have decreased most of the highres texture but it didn't change anything at all (please be aware, that I've been using highres textures since years with Enscape, and there was no problem with it).

Then, I just cleaned up all the materials in the scene (except 16k HDR as sandbox), and then it worked fine again, so I new it was something with materials.

After cleaning each material separately, I found out that the problem was with emmisive light materials. Don't know why, but it works fine again.

    Thanks anyway!

    Bye!

  • Can you elaborate on what 'cleaning each material' means? How does 'clearning' the material relate to a problem with emissive materials? Tnx

By "cleaning material" I meant deleting it from the scene library.

When I deleted all of my emissive materials, suddenly error disappeared. Afterwards I made a new light material, and the error didn't reapear.

  • Hi.

I know this is an old topic but I am currently experiencing the same issue with enscape 3.5. I alreaday tried everything I know to fix the problem. I even tried rendering just a few white boxes with no texture at all just the sun for the lights. But I'm still getting the same result. Its like producing a very dark shadow from the first frame. Like Akuma shadow in street fight when he moves, if you know what I mean.

Hope someone will be able to help me.

  • Hello,

Yes, it seems to be the same issue. In my case I believe that this was the matter of insufficient graphics card abilities.

Which one do you have? I used to work on GTX 1070ti back then.

Also, replacing emissive matierals really helped.

In your case I would suggest (when the problem is happening even in simple scenes) checking the drivers.

I too am having similar issues with animations. It seems as if I have two issues, one with shadows remaining in the initial position, and another where an object will 'scrub' away a shadow as the perspective changes to reveal a lighter surface. Its important to note this does not happen during the render preview, so it seems to be a problem with the actual render engine.

  • Hi mylestec

Would you mind sending in some log files feedback via the Enscape Feedback Button for us to look into? Please and Thank you!

I sent the log files for a re-built model with only a bathroom scene where I'm still having the same exact issues.. note that since my initial forum post I've tried the following trouble shooting measures:

    1. downgrading to previous versions of my graphics card drivers (three iterations back),

    2. previous versions of Enscape back to 3.4.4

    3. I've tried various visual settings:

    a. Auto Exposure

    b. Render Quality - from ultra to high

    c. All Effects off

    d. Ambient brightness - various settings

    e. Sun brightness - zero

    f. Night sky brightness - zero

    g. Shadow Sharpness - zero

    e. Skybox - clear and an HDRI

    f. Video compression quality - BluRay, Maximum, Lossless

    g. Frames / Second - 30 and 60

    4. I've run the same render on another machine w/ a different graphics card

    Nothing has solved the problem.

    This makes my animations unusable.

Thanks a lot for your further post, and I can of course understand any frustration caused here by this.

Right away, this is actually a known behavior which cannot really be circumvented at the moment depending on the scene, perspective and camera speed as well. Check out this thread here and some of my replies to get a better understanding as to why this occurs and when this will be resolved and how.

Let me know in case you run into any other issues in the meantime.

  • Hey, i found our trouble reasons. i decided to turn off the ray tracing on general settings, and its gone. but when i turn on the ray tracing it comes again. maybe the thing is on our graphic card. my vga just broke two weeks ago, and this error comes after i repair my vga.
