Alternative VR HMD's (Head mounted Displays)

  • I just tested a Samsung Odyssey with Enscape in Revit. There are some tracking issues, but I am experiencing these with Unity projects as well. They could be related to my hardware. Other than that, it works. The content is displayed correctly, and the controllers function in the same way as they do with a Vive. This is great!

I could be wrong, but by the looks of it, it seems Enscape uses the Unreal Engine. If so, it is either not 4.18, because in this version of Unreal VR on Windows MR is broken, as it is currently on Twinmotion 2018, or a modified version of Unreal. Lots of assumptions here. But if indeed Enscape uses Unreal, I hope the developers skip 4.18.

Might add, that I have SteamVR with the Windows MR plugin installed.

  • I have tested a small model on the Lenovo MR headset using the steamvr app for window MR.

The settting has to be lowered to high to stop stuttering in the HMD. Set at Ultra the desktop window looks smooth it was just inside the headset.

The controllers worked fine as well and showed up visually as the windows shaped controllers with control tips pointing to the appropriate locations.

    Hurray!!!

  • I thought enscape is built on the cryengine game engine?

No, that's not correct, see my above comment. Enscape doesn't build on any 3rd party engine whatsoever.

This is not unusual at all and is often the case with Oculus/Vive as well. Ultra setting is not really recommended for VR unless you're able to tolerate performance issues in favour of better lighting.
