Macbook Pro 2019 Running slow with Enscape for Mac / Sketchup

  • Hi all,

I'm just trialing Enscape on my work macbook laptop (runing with Sketchup 2023).

Off the bat, even with the default Sketchup lady and a few basic shapes around her, it feels like Enscape is very laggy compared to the demostrations as seen in the tutorials. I expect this is due to my hardware.

    I'm running the software on...
    MacBookPro16,1 (2019) / 8-Core Intel Core i9 / 2.3 GHz

There appear to be two graphics cards in the hardware list

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M - 4 GB VRAM

Intel UHD Graphics 630 (BUILT-IN) VRAM 1536 MB

(unclear if the mac is using both at the same time or just one)

I guess I'm asking the community - is this machine too low-spec?... or can I game it to respond better in realtime - or upgrade the hardware?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ross

Changed the title of the thread from “Macbook Pro 2019 Ruuning slow with Enscape for Mac / Sketchup” to “Macbook Pro 2019 Running slow with Enscape for Mac / Sketchup”.
  • There might be some hints for us in the logs. E.g. if a correct GPU was picked, and other important data.

In our experience Enscape on Mac may work slower compared to PC due to obvious hardware differences, especially on big scenes with lots of geometry. We have addressed it, so the next release will work much smoother. But: in your case even if very basic scenes are painfully slow, there may be something else.

  • OK thanks - so I'll await Enscape's review of my logs?
I wasn't using it on a big screen - just a 16inch Macbook Pro 2019 retina - and the goemetry was pretty basic
Do you know when the next release will be?
Any tips for testing / troubleshooting the Mac in case there's some underlying efficiency problem / optimising for Enscape?

    Thanks

  • If you could PM me email that you used to submit logs I could have a look quicker :)
Next release is planned for the end of September. You can request trial period reset due to performance issues you have with the current version - just write an email to our support when it will be published.

Troubleshooting: let's see your logs first :)

  • Hi there - here are my logs

I assume by PM you mean 'continue to message you in this forum thread' (in the absecne of any personal email etc...) Firstly I get the following 'Load Error' when I startup Sketchup...

Error: #<LoadError: cannot load such file -- win32ole>

Re. Logs - I'm not sure howto generate these? - other than ticking the box in the feedback dialog (however ticking the box doesn't make them available to copy and paste) - any tips?

    Thanks

    Ross

  • Sorry for unclear instructions. With PM I mean private message here on forum.

When you submit feedback with logs box checked we send your logs automatically.

Alternatively you can find renderer logs in ~/User/Library/Application Support/Enscape/Data/Logs

That load error you have is weird and should not happen. But also should not influence renderer performance.

  • There error here is because your are using the Windows only A4Design Enscape Material converter on a Mac
