Custom skybox that use procedural clouds

  • Hello,

I do a lot of renderings for custom residences in mountain settings that require using custom drone 360 panoramas for skyboxes to capture the views correctly. The biggest issue I have with this is the lost ability to control the sky, clouds and sun.

I notice that the pre-installed horizon images (Desert, Forest, Mountains, etc...) are essentially a skybox panorama without image data for the sky. This allows the use of Enscape's Procedural clouds. It would be great if I could create my own skybox that maintained the ability to use the procedural clouds.

  • In Windows, have a look in C:\Program Files\Enscape\Renderer\SystemData\Textures\Horizons (I don't know about MacOS location)

You'll find all the std ones that ship with Enscape.

I don't know if you can add a new one or if you'll have to replace an existing one but as long as you match the size/format etc it 'should' work.

    WARNING!!

You'll be doing this at your own risk, we users are not meant to modify stuff in the Program Files folders

Any Enscape update will almost definitely overwrite any changes you make with the std ones so backup!

That's exactly right. I've been using this method successfully. It's just a transparent .png file 4096x700 pixels with the sky cut out above the horizon. It does take a bit of scaling and tweaking to get the horizon looking correct. (If you just cut out the horizon from a 360 hdr file for ex. it will look squashed in Enscape, you have to vertically stretch the horizon some random amount.)
