Camera won't stop moving

  • The enscape camera will seemingly at random start flying away in a set direction and I am not able to stop it from moving. It is as if the arrow key is stuck on my keyboard however this is occurring on multiple computers at our office and across the 3 platforms we use (Rhino, Sketchup, and Revit). In some instances tapping the spacebar to lock the camera at spectator height will stop the camera from continuing to move but it will start moving in the set direction again once you orbit off the ground. In addition, the time of day will seemingly at random start changing as if I'm holding down the "i" or "u" key and can't be stopped without closing the program. This is happening at least 5 times a day. I first noticed it on release 2.4.1.2 and we're still having this problem in version 2.4.1.42. Since this issue seems to happen at random my main concern is that we cannot confidently use enscape for client presentations until this is resolved.

  • Hello Lewis!

Thank you for providing the feedback.

We haven't heared about such input issues yet. Enscape actually relies on Windows API to check if Enscape window has focus and if any of the keys on the keyboard are pressed. Are you absolutely sure that you don't have any software for controlling windows positioning/focus or e.g. keyboard hotkeys helpers which could change standard way Windows controls it's windows?

  • Hey mpotoka , I'm sorry to hear about this. @Lewis Williams has not replied yet so the same question applies: you don't have any software for controlling windows positioning/focus or e.g. keyboard hotkeys helpers installed on any of the two workstations? If not, please be so very kind as to send us some feedback using the feedback button which should allow us to further troubleshoot the cause behind this problem.

Also, this issue is persisting in multiple projects, or is it only occurring in a specific one? Thanks in advance.

  • Sorry for the late reply. This is still an ongoing issue and seems to be tied to the keyboard. While it doesn't seem to be a stuck key (the camera will randomly start cycling though time of day and/or panning in one direction when I'm not using the keyboard) tapping the WASD keys or UI keys will stop it. I don't think we have any positioning hotkey helpers installed and I will use the feedback button the next time this happens. Thanks!

  • Thanks a lot for your further feedback Lewis Williams , you may also gladly send us a report even before this occurs again as we may be able to find out the cause behind this problem through the provided log files. :)

Additional question: Lewis Williams and mpotoka , are you perchance making use of a wireless mouse/keyboard as this may explain this issue at hand - once a Bluetooth keyboard for example runs low on battery, there may be some hiccups in the transfer of input information, thus leading to glitches.

Should you be using wireless input devices, please be so very kind as to try to reproduce this problem with wired peripherals instead. Maybe this already resolves the problem.

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

  • I am having the exact same issue, just submitted feedback.

    Enscape version - 2.5.0.50-gd44f62a

    Build number - 2.5.19093.934

    Have tried:

    Stock HP keyboard/mouse attached...,

Contour unimouse > turn off = same random weather cycle/movement

Razer Tartarus > turned off = same random weather cycle/movement

Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard > turned off = same random weather cycle/movement

ALL above off > turned off = same random weather cycle/movement

    will try the classic restart.

  • Hey ivanflo , thanks a lot for your post and welcome to our forum!

In case this problem is still persisting, could you briefly let me know which e-mail you've used to submit feedback (so I can track it down)? You can just send me a pm with your e-mail address if you don't want to share it openly. :)

    Thanks a lot in advance!

  • Jeff Downhour , thanks for the report. It's a strange behavior we have not been able to reproduce ourselves yet. It seems that every time I ask for feedback, the user either doesn't reply back, or the log files in the feedback don't state why this is happening.

Any chance you're using Bluetooth peripherals, anything special about your mouse/keyboard? In any case, please also send in a feedback report as described here (add your forum name in the submission form so we know it's from you). Hopefully this will give use further clues why this occurs - also, if you somehow find a way to faithfully reproduce this, let us know!

  • We are working on finding a solution to the issue. There are two cases where this can happen, either Enscape does not see the key release event or there is peripheral that is sending axis events. The first issue will have an improvement that will detect missed events in 2.6. The second is almost unsolvable on our end. I used to have a miss-calibrated game pad that did something similar. The only thing you can do at that point is unplug or disable the device or re-calibrate it. f this is the case, you know what device it is and you are certain that the device is properly calibrated, please let us know so we can fix it.

  • This happens occasionally within our office, but I cannot force it to recur. I think almost every time stopping and restarting enscape fixes it.

If you ever find a way to reproduce this problem faithfully, gladly let us know - that would be very helpful.

  • This is happening across our office on multiple machines as well. We're on version 2.5.3.0, issue started occurring within the last version or two. Sometimes, when I switch back to Enscape after having another window in focus (example work flow would be changing something in Revit then going back to Enscape) either it will start moving rapidly in a straight direction or time will start cycling from day to night.

It happens to me once or twice a day. I just send in feedback with logs because it just happened again, which prompted me to finally google the issue.

Thanks a lot. We'll check out the report.

  • I have also continually had this issue. Mouse and keyboard are wireless. Running Enscape 2.5.3.0 on Sketchup, but have had this issue in previous versions as well. I've had luck in the past just restarting Enscape, but not today. When restarting, the camera position and daytime settings were immediately going bonkers. Restarted 3 times to no avail. However, after tapping all the keyboard controls frantically it stopped.

I think it's worth noting that (for me) it is consistently only the ASDW/arrow keys(not sure which) and the U/I keys that malfunction. From this thread it seems like that's what everyone else is experiencing. Makes me think it might be something else? If the issue is keyboard malfunctions, and users all have different keyboards, it seems odd that all users are experiencing exact same issue. It makes sense to think that we would see different keyboards accidentally triggering different functions to go nuts (h, m, space bar, etc...), and not always just the ASDW/arrow + U/I keys. Really, truly though, I am not a wiz on this subject. Just trying to logic it out :)

  • I've had the day/night cycle constantly scrolling and I've had the movement 'stuck' walking backwards (but could still navigate - just when stopped).

All seem to happen when coming back to the Enscape window, but I think the problem might be originating when I leave the enscape window before it's finished a rendering cycle. (The movement stops when the window looses focus)

  • +1 here in both 2.5 and 2.6. This post was prompted after today when it happened as soon I launched enscape exe. That was a first, previously it has always happened randomly whilst already open. problem varies: either constant movement and have to close and reopen, or the movement plus cycling non stop through day and night. can't yet reproduce or work out what might be causing it. very frustrating, especially if in middle of presentation. I think it might have something to do with switching between applications.

  • Hello @demo3, welcome to the forums. This is quite unfortunate to hear.

First, do you have any "nonstandard" peripherals plugged in? Like the Space Mouse, Joystick, game-pad or similar? If yes, please plug them out and see if the issue persists. If you have found out which device is causing the issue, ensure that it is calibrated correctly.

Second, are the issues starting when you just moved the mouse out of the window or switched the window focus? We may have already fixed your issue for the 2.7. Once the first 2.7 preview version comes out, you should try it out and see if your issue is fixed.

If the issue persists, please update us with details, so we can have a look.
