Recommendations for headset/goggle/VR thingies?

    Hey yall,

    I'm ready to jump into presenting projects to clients using the VR headset goggle thingies. Anyone have any recommendations on brands/models, experiences & pros/cons? (We're doing high-end custom residential architecture in NC, USA. Presenting our own in-house designs)

    First recommendation, don't call them "thingies." ;):D

    I personally like using the HTC Vive. Especially throughout the last few updates to Enscape. Works really smoothly for what we use it for in our presentations. I had some reservations on being able to teach someone, with no VR experience, the Vive's controller in a 30 second sidebar within a presentation but honestly people pick it up really fast. I put on the headset first and kind of show them how moving works. Clients catch on quickly.

    Although, I don't have any experience with other VR headsets, so I don't have any other comparisons to this.

    Currently we support the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Windows Mixed Reality devices. All of our supported devices are equally compatible with Enscape, so the difference between them mainly depends on your personal preferences and what you might be using VR for. We usually recommend our customers try each of the goggles to see which fits their needs better, if you perhaps have the change to do this. :)


    Here are some points to consider:


    The HTC Vive is a bit complicated to set up (more for stationary purposes), while the Windows Mixed Reality Headset and Oculus Rift are easier to setup and, therefore, to take with you on the road.


    The WMR headsets have a higher resolution, which sounds good, but also means that a more powerful graphics card is necessary to run equally complex scenes, when compared to the HTC Vive / Oculus Rift. As mentioned, although the HTC Vive isn't especially portable, it arguably offers the better room scaling.

    Now to you BAS.lab , kindly check out our dedicated panorama / cardboard knowledgebase article here. You basically won't require any additional software at all - just use the link of an uploaded panorama, or simply scan the QR code and your browser will open to display the panorama inside cardboard/on your phone. ;)
