Oculus Quest

  • So currently which is the best option for the best VR output, Keeping it wired or wireless - for enscape.

    1)To showcase to client

    2)To Work

In a fixed setting I am very happy with the performance of my Vive Pro with wireless adapter. No cables to worry about or clients getting tangled up.

At client locations I am trying the Oculus Quest streaming wirelessly from the laptop. Thanks to the inside out tracking there is no need for basestations and cables and stuff. Much easier and faster to deploy. Unfortunately the trigger button does not work as it should. Enscape is currently looking into it. This would be the ideal solution.

Really depends on your preferences, too, but the Oculus Rift S is a great wired and affordable solution right now, but some may prefer the HTC Vive Pro for example since the display has a bit of an higher resolution - still, you could argue that the Rift S is probably more comfortable and if you don't have at least a GTX 1080 Ti or better yet, a RTX 2070 for example, the Rift S is probably the better solution.

If you want to go "all out" though, maybe wait until HTC Vive Cosmos is being officially supported by Enscape - this device may offer the best VR experience to date, but we haven't yet tried it our ourselves. In this case though we'd also recommend at least a capable RTX card like the 2080 for example to be able to use the high resolution (2880 x 1700) of the headset.

Overall, if your hardware consists of at least a GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti and you don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, go for the Rift S. We can definitely tell you that it works with Enscape like a charm!

If you want to use a VR device with Enscape completely wireless, check out annevanzwol's reply above! ;)

  • Hey, is there any info out there yet for Oculus Link? We have Oculus Quest

There is some news from Facebook/Oculus, the Link came out of Beta today. Release info
These small/light (wireless?) headsets are much better for Arch-Viz (As opposed to 120hz 6dof gamer headsets)
Enscape team is actively developing for new devices, however there is some risk they will overlook Quest + Link & others.

Hey I got myself the Quest but, I don't really get how you stream it? I mean I can stream my desktop, but I can't fully walk around like I would with the rift am I right?

With Virtual Desktop (sideloaded version) you can run SteamVr via wifi from your laptop/PC to your Quest with full 6DOF movement. Just make sure to use 5GHz wifi so you have enough bandwidth. There is little bit of lag so not suitable for Beat Saber but for Enscape perfectly fine. The only thing is that the Quest controller trigger button doesn’t work properly in Enscape. The viewer can not teleport. In the 2.7 preview version this should be solved.

  • You may have already discussed this idea:

We export the link to view the web and open it via a VR browser. Next, all you need is just support for walking through oculus quest. Is this possible to implement? Do you have any plans for this?

No plans at the moment, the Quest is overall not powerful enough or you'd hit some performance limits rather quickly when the project is on the larger side - if you have the chance, we definitely recommend a tethered headset to provide and get the full experience, it'll be worth it. :)

Also, the Rift S is really great - easy setup, great tracking, works well with Enscape and is also kind of portable - the alternative would be a quest with a link cable, which will also give you a tethered experience, but the Quest is IMO not as comfortable, but a little more portable. And yes, you can go for a gaming laptop for example, check out our VR requirements here.

  • tag_vasily well the question is good but the problem you are pointing is not real in the sense that even if you had a Quest you would have to have a mobile phone so if you have to have a device I would recommend a computer, I personally have a samsung galaxy book which is excellent for that in the sense that its no bigger than an Ipad pro and you can launch Enscape VR .EXE easily with Steam, or even a web browser if you have a connection.

The cable can be as long as you want and in any case you will have to accompany the client because I am rather skeptic that the average clients have their own Oculus anyway !

And when you say "jump" I believe you are referring to other VR devices because Quest tracks your environment but you wouldn't walk an environment the size of a warehouse or a house or even a condo with the Quest.. You'll most likely navigate thru the controllers..

The best option is the rift because it has its own sensors, its powered with a real OS for our purposes and the headstrap is better than the Quest's, image quality too.

The only REAL problem I still see with this tool is that it has no invisible barrier or disable flymode... I mean it really it the core of the problem when you think about it because there are numerous situations where I am not physically able to help my client fly back to earth or get him or her unstuck from the underground... anyway !

Thank you for your answer! Everything is clear and to the point! I understand perfectly that the riftS + powerful video card experience will be the best! I just had in mind the ability to follow the link through the VR browser (which we create to demonstrate to the customer) from any portable VR (quest, GO, gearVR or any other) I understand that the graphics will be significantly worse for the Web version due to performance limitations (but in my opinion, it is enough to demonstrate the web capabilities to the customer, and not all customers have the ability to open the EXE, since they do not have a good video card) Imagine how convenient and portable this tool will become. But you just need to add this feature to the Web. This will become a kind of analog to irishVR (https://irisvr.com/prospect/), live revit, Fuzor. Is there no logic in my words and this is not a promising direction? Moreover, in the future, it would be possible to develop the functionality for joint study of the model via a link in browser (without the need to install SOFTWARE and have a powerful gaming computer) It's a kind of combination of the ease of creating links via enscape and features similar to irisvr, what do you say?
