Inserted Rhino model into Revit does not render correctly

  • Hi,

I'm working on a model that the existing part of the house had been modelled up in Rhino and then imported into Revit to show up in the renderings for an extension of the rear of the house. The Revit parts obviously render as they should but the front part of the house, which is the imported modelled in Rhino, is missing multiple planes. Is there a way to avoid having to model these parts in Revit to fill in the gaps?

    Thanks.

Hey stphn74 , thanks a lot for your post and welcome to our forum! :)

The first question: Are the elements actually displayed in Revit itself? If it's not displayed in Revit itself, chances are pretty high that it cannot be displayed in Enscape since we can only render what is being given from the CAD solution itself. If it's actually displayed and also rendered fine in Revit, is there is any chance you could send over the project for me to troubleshoot?

  • Hi Demian, thanks for the reply!

Yes it renders within Revit. I've since modelled up the missing parts so have isolated the rhino model within Revit and rendered it both with the render function within Revit and in Enscape. Images attached. I can send in the model either as the full file or just the Rhino part which is saved as a Revit family. How do I send it to you?

My apologies stphn74 for the delayed response.

If you could kindly send in the full model to support@enscape3d.com and upload it to wetransfer.com for example beforehand, that would be fantastic to further troubleshoot the cause behind this behavior! :)

In the e-mail you're sending to support, please also briefly include a link to this thread, or my name so that I can directly assign the created ticket to myself. Thank you in advance!

Thanks Demain, I've sent that via wetransfer as requested.

Thanks a lot. We've checked out the file accordingly and exported it as .DWG to be used in Rhino.

So far we have not experienced the geometry problems so is there any chance you could also kindly send over the exported .DWG file? It seems to render fine in Rhino, but not Enscape (looking at your screenshots), so receiving the corresponding export file would be great. You can feel free to use wetransfer.com again.

Furthermore, we did have a bit of trouble with getting the materials from your project into Rhino, too, via the .DWG export - in this case -> Is there any chance you could also kindly guide me through the export process? Maybe you're following a certain tutorial for example?

  • Hi Demian,

Sorry, there has been a misunderstanding. I am not a Rhino user. I've been supplied with an exported Rhino SAT file of the existing part of a house I'm designing an extension for. I've imported that Rhino model into Revit and saved it as a Revit family. Then I've loaded it into my Revit file to use as a reference for the extension and to use in the renderings of the entire house. When I render within Revit the rhino part of the house renders fine but when I use enscape it is missing planes as shown in the images attached.

It seems that this specific kind of geometry is indeed not being displayed in Enscape as it should - maybe through some conversion "problem" which makes the geometry render just fine in Revit, but through some reason not in Enscape.

I'm still currently waiting on a response from our developers which should be able to give further information regarding this subject, so thanks for a bit more patience.

stphn74 , thanks a lot for your patience!

Our developers had a look at this behavior - this is caused by an issue with how the faces are ordered. If you move through one of the missing walls and look back, you'll see that the wall is shown correctly. To correct this kindly refer back to the Rhino user who created the model in the first place, and request that they check how these faces are oriented.

Once the faces are orientated correctly, perform the exporting process and so on and everything should be displayed fine in Enscape. :)

Let me know in case of any further questions regarding this subject.

  • Hi stphn74,

Hope this is not too late for a reply. But I was just surfing on the internet hoping to find some tools that would help me take my Rhino models to Revit for further editing purposes. Usually I get the Rhino files from my Designing team and it just doesn't fit in the Revit environment at all. So, i found this tool called BIMDeX plugins especially for our use case - Rhino to Revit Exporter. This was super easy, I just like Exported the Rhino model and then Imported inside my Revit platform using their plugins and to my surprise it got the perfect model converted to Revit with no loss in geometry or such. Even the properties and material info was retained as it is. I guess, this might be a good deal, test it out if you have the time and share us your thoughts. I would be happy to think that i was able to help others as well...

    Thanks!!^^
