RTX vs NON-RTX

  • Newest preview says RTX support, exactly what does that mean, is there a comparison of images someplace that shows what we are gaining with RTX support. Would be helpful in future hardware upgrade decisions. Also, is the RTX support automatically engaged if RTX card is present or is there a switch that must be checked?

  • What you get is primarily an increase in performance and a minor bump in fidelity. In contrast to game engines, Enscape already does some ray tracing and the the visual improvement is not so obvious. These are things like higher texture resolution in reflections, more geometry in reflection and the likes. The performance improvements of RTX also open up options to improve the visual fidelity in future versions.

RTX is enabled for all "real" RTX cards automatically. We disabled RTX for the cards that emulate RTX, like the GTX 1080 because it was slower than our own path tracing solution.

    Hi Sean

Can you say elaborate on the performance boost? What are we talking percentage wise and what can we expect going forward. Would be nice to know performance increase, going from 1080ti to 2080ti for example. I know that architecture wise its 25-30%, but if RTX could give a bigger delta, that would be nice.

  • Hi Sean,

We are facing a major hardware upgrade in our office and were wondering which graphic card should we choose for our new PCs.
We are basically using ArchiCad + SketchUp + Enscape3D and will either go for GTX 1080 TI or RTX 2080.
Can you recommend RTX as the card with more potential for future development of Enscape,
or for those who don't use so much VR, more reasonable will be full-packed GTX card, which has now great value for the money?
I know it might be a difficult question, but it is still not clear to us, if the new technology is "the future" or just "nice to have" when it comes to
development of real-time-renderer, and basically, is it worth the extra money. Thanks in andvance.

    Hi tigr and tobiasolsen

we've had a lot of discussion going on in the forums about these topics, please have a look at the following threads:

    Choosing an RTX Graphics Card

    Recommended GPU - Graphics card?

The RTX2080 will provide superior performance in every way, so I'd definitely recommend it even for non VR usecases if budget isn't tight.

Is planed to enable RTX features so that a big visual improvement can be seen? I think on raytraced shadows, full scene visibility in reflections and raytraced area lights. Maybe not available for RT, but for stills and fly-throughs.

Yes but not in the near future. We like to improve the experience for all, like Sergio Fernando , and use RTX to get a speedup. But so far, there is only little visual difference yet a good performance speedup. So far we also implement the same feature set without RTX too, to ensure a broad compatibility.

But please don't forget you pro users - if they can't deliver you will lost them. Buying best hardware for best quality is no problem for professional use. Speed was never a problem for me at Enscape, but quality very often.

guys and what about multiple graphic cards ?

Not a forgotten topic, but also not the highest priority right now - your upvote had been added to the feature request before. :)

  • 但请不要忘记你的专业用户-如果他们不能交付,你将失去他们。购买最好的硬件,最好的质量是没有问题的专业使用。在Enscape,速度对我来说从来都不是问题,但质量常常是问题。

Yes, we hope that future versions will embrace the precise specular reflection and clean, noiseless metal surfaces that RTX brings

  • Please add an ultra extreme setting or something for pro users. Performance with an RTX 2080 graphics card is already really good. I want visual fidelity for stills. The convenience of running everything quick out of Revit is really convenient but the quality of stills is still very much lacking. I haven't tested the new RTX release (will be doing so shortly) but from the sounds of it, there isn't the bump in quality that the community has been hoping for.

I have since tested the latest release. And there is an improvement to the amount of items reflected but it still isn't quite perfect. For example some trees will reflect but without their leaves etc. or some objects especially on more complex Revit models are culled out in the reflections. Hopefully in future releases this will continue to get better. I love the progress though.

Thanks for your feedback. This has been requested before, so I'll forward your feedback and upvote the topic on our agenda accordingly. I can also understand the frustration that our real-time reflections are not "perfect" yet, even when a RTX card is being used. Still, our reflections in general are always subject to improve, with every major release or even smaller updates sometimes.

+1 for the ultra extreme still settings, (i think I've seen this referred to as print quality before) Most are fine with letting one of these renders run for a couple minutes to produce an image that is as close to photo-realistic as possible.

I've forwarded your upvote of course.
