Can Enscape be used with the Oculus Quest (2)?

  • My understanding is Oculus has stopped producing the Rift-S (although it can still be purchased). Therefore it would seem prudent to purchase the newest Quest 2 so long as it can function similarly to the Rift-S in tethered mode using Oculus Link and hopefully in wireless mode using Oculus Link Air. Can someone confirm the previous functionality statement? I do not want to have to purchase an additional app to make it work.

As best I can tell both Oculus Link and Oculus Link Air are a part of the available software that comes with the purchase of the Oculus Quest 2. Given the connection to Enscape is direct streamed from the connected PC, does it matter how much memory the unit has? Other posts have stated Enscape files cannot be loaded directly into the headset's memory. Is there any point in buying the 256gb version over the 128gb version for use with Enscape?

Should I be considering an HTC Vive/Pro or Samsung Odyssey instead? I was hoping to avoid a tether to the PC.

Also, consider this my plea to Enscape to test the Oculus Quest 2 with Enscape and provide some clear guidelines for use. :!:

  • I am researching this as a prelude to making a company purchase and setting a standard. Consequently, I found a Quest 2 on sale and bought one personally to experiment with. Here is what I've discovered so far:

    • Something to consider is Oculus requires a sign-on using Facebook AND a connection to a compatible cell-phone. That is not very Company friendly.
    • I did confirm the Oculus Link and Oculus Link Air apps are a free part of the Oculus PC software. Virtual Desktop is a $20 app that reportedly does the same thing as the Oculus Link app. I found reports of varying degrees of success between Virtual Desktop and Oculus Link. I surmised that a strong wifi signal is required to use Oculus LInk Air with any degree of success. The Oculus PC software is an approximately 5gb install.
  • tjones , regarding the second point - Both Oculus Link and Virtual Desktop have their pros and cons, but both work rather similar and offer about the same amount of functionalities. So it also does boil down to preference since Virtual Desktop for example allows the user to increase the saturation and contrast of the image streamed into the Quest 2, which is not possible with Link Air (yet).

Also, a strong Wifi signal is indeed required to use the Quest 2 wirelessly - Or rather, you could use a weaker signal but you'd also have to reduce the streaming quality overall as well as resolution and/or frames per second. Keep in mind that a lot of data transfer is required in the first place to provide an (again, for example) image with 70-120 FPS and resolutions up to well over FullHD per eye. And, this connection has to be stable ideally compared to the usual "2D monitor streaming" since any lag/hiccups can result in nausea or general unease inside VR.

Still, a quality Wifi 6 router is in the end still all you really require (IF you have a capable machine of course) - For example, I own this one here (not affiliated) and I'm perfectly happy with it streaming content into the Q2. :) A more affordable product would also do, but you can use the spec sheet to orientate yourself. Hope this helps to clear a few things up and if any questions arise let me know anytime.

  • Hey, I've been following different threads and trying to find a solution for my setup but have come to a dead end. I would greatly appreciate your support and guidance.

I would like to connect my Quest 2 to a virtual machine in a different part of the country. I currently do this with Virtual Desktop and I can control and use the virtual machine through my quest 2 with no problems. However, when I start to run enscape through revit and hit the VR button, it is stuck searching for a head-mounted display.

How do I get my enscape to recognize my quest 2 as a device while connected via virtual desktop to my virtual machine?

I have downloaded the oculus and steamvr app but my Virtual Machine does not recognize my headset as a device even though I am using it to view and control it.

    Thank you!

  • purposeplace.studio, I think you may be relieved to find out you are very close! In the Virtual Desktop menu there should be an option to "Switch to VR" which should be done when an application is looking for the VR headset. Then when you are done with the VR application, you can return to this menu to "Switch to Desktop" and control the computer again.

  • Hi all, I am using enscape 3.1 with oculus quest 2 using oculus link.

I am having issues with shaking image - even if I stand still I experience slight shakes/movements, which is extremally annoying. ( all other software works OK)

    Could you please assist?

    thanks,

    thanks,

I'm sorry to hear about that - This is a problem that should be resolved already in our latest preview which you can acquire here. Please give it a try and let me know in case you still experience the issues listed above.

Be assured that these fixes in the preview will also find their way into our next upcoming release soon.

  • I had the exact same issue, running the latest version a few weeks ago. Had great hopes for the Oculus Quest 2. Having used the Oculus Go for years, it was amazing to move freely around a modeled environment but the shaking was impossible to live with, made me feel sick (never had motion effects before this time) and returned it the very next day.

I run Enscape on a pretty powerful rig so I know the hardware can take it. I just put it down to the device itself.

  • I know it's been heavily covered in the Forums on here, however I'm looking to buy a VR headset to utilise Enscape VR.

The PICO 4 has grabbed by attention due to its size and superior resolution - does anyone know whether it's compatible with Enscape VR?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to our Forum! :)

One of our users recently decided to go with the PICO 4 and confirmed that it is compatible with Enscape, using the PICO VR Assistant and the STEAM VR link within Enscape. Additionally, they've been using it wireless without any issues.

While the PICO 4 is not officially supported, it seems to work with Enscape - But please be aware that unfortunately we cannot make any definite promises that you will not run into any other unwanted behavior or issues generally.

If you experience any, let us know though so that we can troubleshoot them further depending on the context. Thanks in advance!
