Loading assets every time is time wasted

  • DGD-Duane, eeblack - Noted. We are fully aware that this is problematic for some users. There will be improvements coming in version 2.7, but I think it may be something that you will see improve over time, and as far as I am aware, there is no magic bullet for everyone in regards to these loading times you are experiencing.

I'm sorry I can't give you any other information than that at the present time. All I can tell you is that the developers are fully aware of this situation and are trying to make improvements to this.

  • Happy to hear they are working on something. It's getting worse as more and more content is added. Let us download a cache file that is stored locally and gets refreshed when it checks on launch for updates. I don't mind waiting for an individual item that I actually want to download. It's just painful trying to find them. These are just thumbnail images with a link to the web content.

  • Totally agree the loading time is crazy. I know if you let them all load they get cached but when archicad is closed or PC restarted they have to load all over again. I like using the asset manager for selecting & placing but the loading delay is super frustrating.

This is a major issue that needs a good solution so please let the developers know this.

I like the idea that the preview thumbnails are held locally and sync'd while the actual asset download only happens when an item is selected and when it is downloaded it also gets held locally.

    Thanks

  • I'll forward your additional feedback, thank you all - General Hadeda , we'll improve this a lot for 2.7, so stay tuned for that. In general, the speed regarding how fast Assets will be loaded via the internet is something which will steadily improve.

Seems at least for us that Verson 2.7 with more assets means slower loading times generally. Both as they "download" and when placing assets even in small Revit Models. We concur that an offline version is critical to workflow. We don't need up-to-the-second updated assets.

  • I may get some FLACK for this, but what about NOT opening up the actual asset library when we press the button... but a canned selection screen that allows us to NAVIGATE to the appropriate section of assests before it starts loading...

Version 2.7 should've not made the Asset library loading times any slower - maybe the first time starting it up.

We're also aware, that an offline version would be ideal in this case - I'm also forwarding your feedback once more.

I can gladly forward that as a feature request as well. Chances are that we'll prior implement something like an offline option though.

  • Completely agree, using the library, particulalry as it grows is becoming so time prohibitive.

we have 500/500 and its insanely slow.....

    My Wish list

    • Dont start loading anything, start with nothing selected
    • These are just images, surely it can be faster till it loads the content.
    • Please get offline/cached thumbnail loading sorted to speed up the UI. it should only check for 3d data once selected
    • Be able to tag an asset as LOCAL, to keep the 3d locally cached
    • Have a only display tagged/favourited assets option
    • going down a selection tree doesnt work backwards, you have to go back to the start
    • Allow users to make their own collection of Enscape Assets (our favourites)

    More speed captain. more speed.....................

  • This is really resolved now with the offline assets.. https://enscape3d.com/communit…edgebase/asset-library-2/

  • While the slow loading time is being worked on by developers at the very least there should be a webpage directory for every object in each category with the images and the associated names. It's not slow to view a bunch of images online - then when you've found what you want you could just search for the name in the asset library.

Have you used tried the "offline Assests"? Resolved this issue for me.

  • Maybe You could just load thumbnails.. Asset can be fully downloaded after being chosen.. And verification of assets can be done maybe by some internal "last updated" parameter.. You don't have to check all assets just time when it was downloaded.. everytime You add something change the date.. if its different make proper validation..

  • Yep just loading Thumbnails first, model second will resolve this

I could be mistaken, but by looking at my cache when browsing the library after reinstall, I would guess that's already how it works. To get better performance, we might need a more efficient cache (preload the cache data with install, reduce the need to refresh the cache, etc )
