I was working on an image that has some pretty high resolution textures and it made me wonder. Does Enscape downscale textures for performance reasons?

Does Enscape Downsize Textures?

Ah - just as I suspected. I was using an 8K texture for a terrain and it seemed to be downsampled.

Better texture scale handling is work in progress - hold on
Specially for such cases.

That's great news!

Unlike Vray, I find that Enscape renders very well even with low res texture images somehow. Now I rarely make texture images more than 1mb, which is great to keep SK model size small. Do you see that texture quality is downgraded too much?

The image I was using for my skybox was very hi-res and it was looking downsampled in the final output.

Hi VStudio! Thanks for the question; at this time we support textures up to 4K. Any textures larger than that will be down sampled to avoid you running into VRAM issues.
Any chance you could add a checkbox to remove this restriction? With 3090s on the market, VRAM amount became less of an issue.

Thanks, I will forward that wish of yours accordingly. Have you run into issues so far where our current texture size limitation was really a problem?
Usually when the material looks blurry it's often that the albedo texture is too stretched out for example. If you wanna share a screenshot or a couple feel free as well.

It's a real head-scratcher, to be honest. I downsized the texture under your limit, and Enscape still downsizes it even further.

Ok, for those facing the same random downsampling problem. Draw a rectangle outside any groups and components. Paint problematic texture on it. Watch the problem disappear.
I have a video of this. It's pretty funny. Do you want to see it?
