Unable to place assets

  • Hi all,

I am using Enscape (version 2.7.1+20192) as a plug in on Rhino 6 (the latest version). The realtime rendering with materials is almost flawless, however I am unable to place assets in my model. It doesn't show up in my Rhino viewport and also not in the Enscape viewport.

I can't seem to find out what the problem is....

Welcome to our forum! I'm sorry to hear about that - ln the fist instance, please uninstall any existing version of Enscape currently present on your machine, then reboot the machine, run the Enscape installer again and in the first window of the installation process, where you will see the checkbox named 'I accept the terms in the License Agreement' make sure that is checked.

This will enable the Advanced button which you should then click to proceed to the next window which will offer you the option to install for all users of the machine.

Afterward, if you're unsuccessful still, please briefly send in a feedback report with your log files as described here, simply adding a link to this thread in the submission form for reference purposes! :)

  • Thank you for your reply.

I tried uninstalling and installing again, but I didn't work. I sent the logfiles as you said.

Thanks a lot for your further reply - my colleagues surely have taken over the ticket and provided you with a reply? :)

  • It might have to do with layers. I notice that the geometry inside the asset (which is a rhino block) will not be assigned to the current layer.

    For example.

Place an asset in a new file in Layer 01. Then switch off that layer. Change current layer to Layer 02 and place that asset again. Nothing will show up because the geometry inside is still in Layer 01 which is off.

To fix this situation you can place an asset in another Rhino file and then copy that asset to your working file.

  • I am also having issues with this. Rhino enscape block don't seem to work correctly with layering or heavy files. You think they exist on one layer but actually when you type blockedit they exist on an original layer you placed them on even if you move them to a new layer. You then have to individually block edit each individual block instance to correct it to the layer you want. The issue is compounded if you want to copy assets between files as it then becomes messy and you cannot purge it out as the layer you thought nothing exists upon actually contains all of the blocks. This wouldnt be too much of an issue but sometimes the blocks show in rhino but not enscape. There seems to be a fundamental issue with assets and block management in Rhino. If i worksession multiple files with the same assets inside from different files it crashes my enscape. Perhaps it is to do with the block name being duplicate? Enscape is barely usuable in it's current state on my large scale project which is very frustrating...

  • This is an API issue with Rhino, as far as I remember. Perhaps one of our developers will chime in if i'm incorrect with this, but I believe that Rhino is not providing the hooks to be able to assign Assets / Blocks to the correct layer.

In that regard, I would urge all Rhino users to request Rhino open up their API further, otherwise there is not much we can do about this.
