Anyone using Enscape in VR - Interested to hear experiences

Whenever you encounter any issues with Enscape or your subscription please reach out to our dedicated support team directly through the Help Center or by using the Feedback button as detailed here.
  • As the title suggests really, is anyone on the forum using Enscape in VR? What are your experiences of it? Quality, motion, any experience of jitter or lag?

At the moment we are struggling to get a usable experience from it compared to other renderers (Twinmotion mainly). We use it on an Alienware 17 with a GTX1080 card so by rights it should be pretty decent but I'm not sure if it's something we're doing here or what but you can't even move your head without it lagging really badly. I should add that it's on Ultra (something that I don't think should be difficult to achieve on the spec of PC we're running with) and will need to be for user experience.

Hi DanS , I'm sorry to hear about that!

Do you perchance use a HTC Vive? If so, did you make sure to activate the Allow asynchronous reprojection and Allow interleaved reprojection options in the Vive Setups Performance settings tab?

You can read about this in our Knowledgebase Article on VR. I'd recommend having a look at the full article.

No we have the Oculus set-up here.

I see, this sounds interesting. Of course performance of Enscape in general depends on the project size & complexity. Would you be so kind to send us some Feedback so we can have a closer look at what's happening? Please leave a note in the description describing your problem, so we can connect it to this forum post.

Please let me know if there's any questions apart from that!

I think in general there is a lot going on in the model however the .exe file is sill only 500+MB. I exported another at 300+MB and it was fine however the 500MB one tends to stutter when going through.

Do you notice any differences between Walkmode & Flymode? In some cases with very complex geometry it might be the case that physics calculation slow down the framerate. Physics simulations are disabled once in Flymode, so that could help in some cases.

  • I've had good results with the Oculus. I would look into a 3rd sensor. I was getting jittery performance and found out that it wasn't Enscape, I just needed to reset my sensors and add a 3rd for a smoother experience. - Running Enscape through SketchUp on a 1080 card

  • We are having similar problems as described by dsmith with our VR experiences using the Vive. We have a GTX 1080, and I have double checked all settings as described above, but the ultra setting has been unusable on several large projects that we have tested. I had hoped that the latest release of 2.1 would solve these issues, but it is still too jittery to be useful. We are able to view our models by lowering the quality setting, but it is disappointing to miss out on the best quality available.

  • Hi, I'm Using Enscape with Revit 2017.2, I'm Running a DELL Alienware Intel I7 2.90 GHz@2.90 GHz, 32 GB Ram DDR4 and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, I'm also running the HTC VIVE Headset with no major problems far from the Lighthouses synchronization, I've noticed some some glitches when I try to modify some object parameters in Revit while Enscape is still running but I think is my fault, and finally a minor problem I'm having is that the image get blocked when the movement is quite rapid, another subject is that I'm not able to have the Enscape MAP and some of the new features seems to be hidden for me, regards

  • I am looking into purchasing a VR setup for our Architectural practice. We will be testing a system very soon on some extremely large projects in order to determine the viability of this.

I do have one question however. Is it possible to use VR with an exported .exe? We are considering getting a powerful laptop so that we can also take the VR setup with us to clients and it would be easier with a single .exe instead of saving huge central models to the laptop.

On a side note, if anyone would like technical advice on PCs and VR setups, I am an IT Technician (now manager) and have specialised in custom built computers for the past 7 years. Feel free to ask questions :)

VR will be enabled in the standalone exe if it was active during export. Enabling VR for standalones during runtime is something we are currently working on (& also improving VR interactions, which will allow you to change certain settings inside VR ).

  • We've done it for client meetings as well. Exporting is crucial as you want the materials to be baked in (our material maps are hosted on a local server).

  • I have been using the VR in our office for a few months.

One issue that I've encountered is that everyone is getting motion sick.

I have looked into the settings and tips for countering motion sickness but it still seems to be a problem.

When I use the VR for games and such, I have no issues. I think the frame rate is the problem. As it's obviously generating a new world with every step.

It's still a great and very powerful tool, but it just puts me off showing clients.

The last thing we want is clients leaving meetings with motion sickness, as it seems to last awhile and leave a bad taste on a otherwise fantastic experience.

I would consider getting a third sensor but I don't want the company to keep investing if we don't get a clean outcome.

As I said though, still such a fan of the VR Enscape offers and would recommend.

  • I just purchased a HTC VIVE headset, our work pcs have 128gb of ram, Nvidia Quadro M5000 video card, intel xeon CPU E5-2680@2.4ghz. We're using revit 2017/2018 with enscape. For VR purposes it lags greatly. the exported VR models are just around 200 megs. even with live walkthroughs with enscape paused, quality at medium and above creates total lagging issues. since my video card only has display ports I purchased a hdmi to display port 6 foot cable and it works now since before I was getting compositor issues with using an adapter. based on my specs I would think that I shouldn't be getting any lag. I've even heard people with a high end 1080gtx card having same lag issues. what can be done????????? thanks

  • Have a look at this guide in our documentation: https://enscape3d.com/knowledg…-virtual-reality-headset/

  • the quadro card is 3 years old (ish)

based on older chip design and gets bested by even a GTX980 graphics card let alone a newer card.

Even a GTX1060 would likely out perform it.

unless you are using CAD software that demands open GL it is unlikely a Quadro will benefit you much.
