Break tiling

  • Hey everyone, my first post here on the forum.

I am pretty new to Enscape in combination with Sketchup and so far I am really excited about the possibilities.

Next to Enscape I was also really interested in TwinMotion but so far I favour Enscape more. :)

There are a few things which I do really like in TM and one important one is the possibility to add all kinds of stuff to surfaces to break with the 'tiling' effect of textures.

My question is, how do you guys/girls work to get this tiling effect out of the way. Especially from the topview, my parking lot looks so fake.

Hope anyone has a nice solution for this.

  • I hope someone also experiences this problem and has a solution

For now I've thought of adding a .PNG to the surface and add 1cm of height so the texture wont pop/flicker but also doesnt get thay strange png discoloring on the surface underneath it.

  • Hey DeKoetsier , thanks a lot for your inquiry, pardon for the delayed response.

So, in most cases a tile-able texture, especially when it's something rather simple like a parking lot ground material should be already plenty to avoid any obvious seams/tiling.

Can you perhaps also send me a screenshot of the current project, where I can see the obvious tiling? Then I can look for an equally good texture which will also be tile-able better.

  • Unfortunately I cannot show a preview right away. But the problem is, even with good textures (texturehaven and cc0textures) on the right size, on larger areas you see the repeating effect.

And with decals/imperfections etc. It is possible to break/hide this effect. And since Enscape doesn't have this feature (yet), like for example Twinmotion does, I wonder how you guys/girls work around this problem.

    Edit:
Photo added. It's from a "really simple" parking lot, which is far from complete btw. I've already added some sand via a .png 0.5 cm above the ground. (Or else it creates a strange shadow/stain in the transparant part".
The bricks from the parking lot, the concrete and the pavement (even the grass) all have this tiling/repetitive feel to it.

From this perspective what you see is normal, especially since these textures are not entirely seamless, or in other words, their nature makes the seams more obvious. On the surfaces where it's most obvious, can you please try "Explicit Texture Transformation" as well and make the tiles larger? Also, we do not have a tool yet to add some imperfections automatically, but I've also gladly forwarded that feedback of yours.

Additionally you may also add some bump to each of the materials until it looks realistic to you, just in case you haven't already, but adding some bump also increases details which can help with this effect above.

If there is a chance for you to share the project, I can also gladly check it out myself.

    EDIT:

It can also help to add something like water to such surfaces, of course if it fits into the scene:
