    Enscape version -

    Seems like Atmosphere tab's "White Background" changes overall brightness of the image.

    This has been observed both "auto contrast" on or off (which I thought was the culprit)

    Stupid of me to not see the obvious.

    Right. The previous sky might influence the auto exposure, and when it's gone, the influence is gone. The white background has no impact on autoexposure when whitemode is enabled.
