thanks i've attached a white render, showing the geometry. As you can se it's quite complex
Its a combination of different things that makes the whole thing work first of all i've made the road in a rough geometry, with holes and small hills. Then i have intersected this with a plane with a water material, and this makes the large ponds on the road. The wet look of the asphalt is made via a specular map, and a bump map. Maybe i should put together a "making of.." article at some point
Thanks! the look of a matte painting is precisely what i was going for I think its the complex, un-even geometry, highres textures, and a bit of post production that makes the image look more "free hand painted"
