Did this ever get resolved? I'm using version 3.4 and getting the same error. I have a ticket open with Enscape and waiting for them to reply.

I'm having a similar .JSON error when I try creating a new custom asset from SketchUp. My folder structure is on my work network so I would assume it shouldn't be an issue.
