I would like to report back that using EVGA Precision to lower the "power target" to its minimum has helped quite a bit. Any speed tradeoff is well worth it imo.

To tag along on the alpha channel support... +1,000
As a bonus, if we could get another movie export format such as *.mov, with embedded alpha channel, that would be awesome.

That would be great.
So it is normal to experience some sluggishness when rendering movies? I was asking to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious that could improve the responsiveness.

Chris

Thanks for the reply... so your experience is that the system remains fully responsive while rendering movie files?
Fyi, I have noticed that simple scenes cause less sluggishness while more complicated scenes cause more. Gpu utilization appears to be less than 5% in either case but still causes the issue.

Are there any plans to allow us to type in entries for settings, or is the slider the only input Enscape will allow?
This has been mentioned several times as potential solution for various problems but I do not see a thread about it. I also do not see this on trello.
Thank you,
Chris

I am curious if others experience a general system slowdown when renderings with enscape?
I am running 1080ti.. (2 actually, but I realize only one is used) Cpu utilization is around 10%, and gpu seems to be around 5%, but my system lags when rendering. With vray, I could change the affinity to reserve processors for other work. With enscape, I haven't been able to figure out why there is a slowdown or how to throttle it.
Thanks,
Chris

Agree... without DOF, the Material ID pass is useless for shots with dof. With DOF, it may not be perfect, but is useable in many situations. Thanks for pointing this out and making this very clear Micha!
(Workaround for now.... render without dof and fake it with depth pass after post processing. )

+1
It would be great if we could specify a total length of time for a path and let escape do the math for the rate of speed. This would be the best of both worlds.

Same questions / issues here.

I think we agree
To be clear, my request is to add another Highest/Ultra/SuperDuper quality option, to allow us to save less compressed, cleaner videos (ie. Save a 400 MB mp4 instead of 20 MB mp4 )
This would be useful both for producing raw content (great beauty passes... as I use it for) or one stop shop (for those who don't need further editing) For either purpose the current Highest quality setting is not high enough.
..and providing the option of exporting a sequence of still images would be even better. But if we can't have the option to export a sequence of still images, at least give us the highest possible quality mp4s.

As a suggestion for hiding the transition.... Would it be possible to tie the brightness of the alpha channel to the distance and allow it to smoothly fade out instead of just becoming less dense with distance?

I am curious if you guys are considering adding an option for better video compression in the near future. It is not shown on the trello board.
I am editing a video currently and the heavy compression of the videos being saved is currently very limiting. There are already compression artifacts in the output videos, which only become worse when edited.
Even for those who are not editing and just want to upload a clean video to Youtube / Vimeo the compression should be better. It is recommended that when uploading to web video accounts one use minimal compression to compensate for the automatic compression that will happen on their end.
Outputting to 4K helps some, but is not affecting the root of the problem which is that Enscape is currently throwing away good pixels by saving with too high of a compression setting.
Thank you,

I would like to be able to load a custom horizon while enscape is running.
Currently we have to close and open sketchup after creating or editing a custom horizon image and placing it in the horizon directory.
Thank you,

First time I have noticed it being a problem so I do not think so... I will do some more checking and report back.

I would like a convenient and foolproof way to switch between versions for testing previews.
In looking for a workaround, I have begun installing new versions to their own directory and then tried editing the "loader.rb" pointer to change back and forth. Have not tested enough to know if this is a usable workaround. Anyone else have any tips?

The color on the material ID passes seem random, and on my current project many different materials are all sharing the same color in the Material ID pass. Am I missing a setting for specifying the Material ID?
If not, how exactly is the material ID color determined in sketchup? Face material? Group / Subgroup material? Does Default Material have an effect?
Thank you,
Chris -
Exactly.
Its not just useful for overnight though... the ability to queue and save settings per path is really the only way to be efficient during production and avoid mistakes that occur by manually starting each of the paths.
Our typical archviz animations are made of multiple simple segments rather than one long complex path. The ability to efficiently handle this is very useful.

I would like to be able to queue up several paths and specifiy a render setting for each one.
Thank you,

Awesome... when creating the new flexibility, please proved an option that allows one to duplicate the simple a to b constant motion (translation and rotation) from the previous animation system.
Thank you,
Chris
